Updated **8/26** Emp is back, sort of! I've started school now and that means two things: 1) I will be learning lots of awesome stuff (and hopefully writing some), and 2) I will not be able to update as much. However, ~shinigami-nataku is back and will be helping me take care of your needs!

The contest has been closed for some time now despite my lack of actually closing it (which i have now done). It might be awhile before we can judge them, but I promise you it will be done. I have to talk with Nataku about the next step as far as judging and prizes go.

I was able to do some submissions today, but the others will have to wait a little bit longer. Again, sorry for the delay. :<

Fantasy Contest 2008

Hello. To commemorate the ressurection of this community, we have decided to hold a contest. The idea of the theme of this contest was suggested by ~garfinkel, and then created using the fantasy race generator at [link]

Theme:

In no more than 2000 words, write a short fantasy story based around the following race:

The tiny race. They are black-haired and have tails that are elegant. They have large litters. They are empathic. In their culture, every person is expected to be good at carpentry. They worship a single goddess who works via assorted servants and messengers. Most religious observation is done in private. They are integrated into another culture, but have no land of their own. A great doom awaits them, and they know it not.

Please be sure to follow the rules below. After the closing date, there will be a week-long voting period before the winner is announced. The winning entry will become the featured deviation of our community until the next contest. The top three entries will receive honourable mention in our journal:

Rules:

1. Entry must be under 2000 words long, and be a piece of fantasy fiction.
2. Closing date of the contest is August 15th 2008 at 6pm GMT. Submissions received after this time will not be included in the contest.
3. Please refrain from making your entry too mature. We do have young members in this community and we want them to feel comfortable taking part.
4. Moderators may enter the contest, as I (~shinigami-nataku) will handle the voting at the end of it and so I won't enter to make things fair.
5. Submit your entries to the community in the usual way, but make clear in your note that they are contest entries so they don't get overlooked. All contest entries will be submitted to the gallery, and then linked to in this journal so you can easily read them.
6. If you have any complaints or queries, please note ~shinigami-nataku.
7. Have fun.

Joining

07.02.2006 - please note that the rules below are compulsory. You must do these in order to be a member of our club. I worded them nicely because I am one of your stereotypical well-mannered Brits. This notice has been added due to people thinking that the membership clauses were optional and complaining about me enforcing them.

In order to post work in this community, you first need to join it. Please do this by sending a note to ~original-fictions or ~shinigami-nataku entitled 'Join'. Please don't ask to join in a comment, as these are easy to overlook. Once you have become a member (which probably won't take that long) please +watch the community and post our icon - - in the journal on your page so everyone knows you're a member. To post an icon, type the following into your journal but write our club name instead of the underscores - :icon_______: - see, it's simple!

Affiliation

If you are the administrator of another community and want to become an affiliate of this one, please send a note to ~original-fictions or ~shinigami-nataku entitled 'affiliate'. Once I, ~shinigami-nataku, have agreed that we can be affiliates, add our icon to the journal of your community and your's will be placed at the bottom of this journal. I will periodically check to see if the ~original-fictions icon is displayed on your page and if it is not then I will end our affiliation.

Submitting your work

If you would like to submit your own poetry or prose to be displayed in the gallery, please send a note to ~original-fictions entitled 'submission'. On this note, please put a link to your work on DA. Your work will then be put up on this site. Any genre at all is welcome provided that it is your original work and not fan-fiction. Once you start submitting work, an index will be created for you within the journal so that it is easy for readers to navigate between the different chapters or pieces you submit. Please remember that we don't accept fan-fictions as they are not original pieces. Also, if you are submitting poetry, it would help if you tell us the genre of your poem as this no longer shows up for us thanks to dA's new layout. I also would ask you to be patient with me. Although I enjoy running this site, it is not my full-time job. I will only post a maximum of two pieces per person per day and so it could take a few days for your work to appear on the page.

Work will only be rejected if:
1. It is completely obscene. We do allow mature-rated works in our gallery, but anything deemed too obscene will not be put up.
2. If the grammar and presentation is not up to a certain degree. If you are going to show your work on dA, you'll get better comments if it has been spell-checked.
3. It is a preview of a longer work. I'm happy to put up short stories, poems and chapters of longer work, but previews aren't really fair. The work preview may never come about, and it takes me a long time to put all the pieces sent up on this gallery...
4. It is work in your scraps folder. If you do not deem it good enough to be in your main gallery, it is not good enough to go in ours.
